There are lots of animals that can be constructed from hearts, but the butterfly is perhaps the cutest-at least that’s what my girls think. This craft is easy enough for toddlers, and only requires a few basic craft items.
You will need the following items to make your butterfly:
- Construction paper
- Googly eyes
- Pipe cleaners
- School glue
Follow these steps to create your butterfly:
Cut two large hearts out of a sheet of red construction paper. These will become your butterfly wings.
Cut one medium sized oval out of a sheet of dark pink construction paper. This is the center of your butterfly.
Turn the oval so that it is vertical, and then glue the hearts on their sides so that they are coming out of either side of the oval. The points of the hearts should be under the oval. These are the butterfly’s wings.
Cut three smaller hearts out of a light pink sheet of construction paper. Glue one to the top of the oval to act as the butterfly’s head. Glue the other two hearts inside of the bigger hearts that are acting as the butterfly’s wings.
Glue a set of googly eyes on the heart-shaped head. If you don’t have any, you can just draw them on with a magic marker.
Cut a pipe cleaner in half and bend it over slightly at the top. Glue the pipe cleaners so that they are coming out of the top of the butterfly’s head. These are the butterfly’s antennae.
- You can use a toilet paper roll as the butterfly’s center if you wish.
- You can use any color construction paper that you have on hand.
