Kids love playing with Playdough. Playdough can get expensive after awhile because kids often forget to put the lid back on the container. This allows the Playdough to dry out and become useless. Plus, parents and kids are limited to using the colors available for sale in the store.
If you want to create a unique color shade, or one that glitters, you'll have to make your own Playdough. Fortunately, making dough that your kids can play with is something that you can easily do at home for a fraction of the cost of store brand Playdough.
You will need the following items to make your homemade Playdough:
- 3 cups of plain flour
- 3 cups of water
- 1 ½ Tbsp. of cream of tartar sauce
- 1 ½ cups of salt
- 1 ½ Tbsp. of vegetable oil
- 15 drops of food coloring
- 2 Tbsp. of glitter
Follow these steps to make your homemade Playdough:
Get out a large mixing bowl and add the flour, water, cream of tartar sauce, salt and vegetable oil. Mix until thoroughly combined.
Drip the food coloring into the homemade dough and mix again. If you want your dough to be a little bit darker, add more food coloring. The color food coloring you choose depends on the color that your child likes the best.
Add glitter in the color of your choice and mix the dough one final time.
Store the homemade dough in a plastic zipper bag in between uses.
You can always separate the dough into two or three clumps before adding the food coloring and the glitter if you want to make several different colors.
