Edible Crafts

Why just make crafts when you can make EDIBLE crafts? It is so much fun to create pretty items to enjoy--and then eat! From gingerbread houses to peep dioramas, models of countries and planets and everything in between, crafting snacks is the way to go. You don't end up with the clutter that a lot of crafts result in, either!

CNY Crafts

It's the Year of the Pig! Do you celebrate Chinese New Year? It's such a beautiful holiday and though we're not Chinese, my family and I still like to read about it and admire the holiday from afar. We used to make our own crafts like these, but the more we talk about appreciating and not appropriating cultures that aren't ours, the more we feel like we should just purchase art from authentic artists and appreciate rather than try to replicate anything.

New Year's Crafts

Do you have any crafting goals or projects coming up in the New Year? Each New Year, one of the first things we do is burn our old tree and calendar, which isn't exactly a craft, but we do save pieces of the tree for crafts throughout the year. We also update our "Family Notice Board" with our map of states we've been to, countries we've collected postcards from, our giving tree and other fun projects.

More Chinese New Year Crafts and Activities

Around the World Stories just launched a new Asia story and my daughter and I decided to try their free month trial. We have learned so much more than we usually do during the Chinese New Year in just a week! I had no idea the Chinese zodiac was still so important today and that so many people base business and even marital decisions on it. The story is good, but they also have a recipe for dumplings, a lot of fun facts and information, videos and additional activities.

Chinese New Year Crafts

It's that time of year again: Chinese New Year! In case you weren't aware, it's the Year of the Dog, so those crafts are especially on point right now. In my family, we are doing a few things to celebrate, including creating silly fortunes (which has nothing to do with it and everything to do with us just being weird), watching Born In China on Netflix and eating some oranges for good luck!

GISHWHES!

It is the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. GISHWHES, the brain child of Misha Collins of Supernatural fame, is in full swing this week, and although it may be the last GISHWHES as we know it, it's no less outrageous, fun and meaningful than any other year. Jump in with some of the craziest crafts you've ever done!

Fun Doctor Who Crafts

Due to schedule changes and a limited budget, my daughter isn't able to attend the Doctor Who camp she had so hoped to go to this year, so I've been looking up various crafts and activities for her to do at home instead. Doctor Who crafts are cute, fun to do and help celebrate your fandom, and most can be made with things that you already have at home.

Make some easy Doctor Who valentines to save for Valentine's Day or to even distribute whenever you feel like it.
